| Productive Sector |
Overview
The Productive Sector Division focuses on the sub-sectors of agriculture, industry, trade, tourism, environment and natural resources. The aim is to conduct policy research and analysis in order to identify factors that explain the performance and competitiveness of these sectors, which form the backbone of economic development in Kenya.
Thematic Areas
Agriculture: The main focus in agriculture is to conduct research and policy analysis towards increasing the competitiveness and productivity of the various sub-sectors of agriculture in Kenya.
Micro and Small Enterprises: The research and policy analysis in micro and small enterprises is aimed at building the capacity for policy makers and implementers of MSEs policies, empowering MSE associations, and monitoring and evaluation of policies in the MSE sector.
Regional and International Trade: The aim of this research theme is to help Kenya's trade negotiators in developing suitable positions with respect to the various trade negotiations taking place at the regional and international level. KIPPRA therefore participates in trade negotiations and carries out analysis of various international and national policy outcomes.
Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources: This programme aims to analyse the status, potential and opportunities for exploitation of the tourism, environment and natural resources sub-sectors. It also identifies the limitations and the impact their exploitation has on the environment and economic development. Recent work has focused on implications of Foreign Direct Investment on performance and competitiveness in tourism, and the use of wetlands in the Lake Victoria Basin.
